So, we have made it to Berlin. The big city, the parties (aye, right), art and music, the history. We have now been here for long enough that it is time to take stock and select a few impressions.

Berlin is big. It takes about 45 minutes to get anywhere to do anything. I love taking the trains. The architecture is wild. Grand, imperial buildings next to modern high rises next to wild concrete dreams. The great gaps left by war and wall are mostly filled. However, there are still surprisingly many green spaces. I particularly like the ones that also contain rusting remains of old railway infrastructure. The new is replacing the old. Ideological struggles become concrete realisations.

I can see the same forces at work that have changed Edinburgh. However, it is all new to us and we do not know what we have lost. So, we can look forward to taking new paths.
