The Internationale Akademie für Photographie organised a photo marathon on the 23rd Novemeber 2024 with the theme "Was bewegt dich in der Stadt/What moves you in the city?". The aim was to get some unique points of view of the future of the city. It being Berlin in November my contribution might have turned out a little gloomier than perhaps warranted.
Each of the 5 locations had a different theme. Two pictures from each location were to be submitted at the end of the day with no processing. I did convert mine into monochrome in camera which also helped the upload process at the end. I also only used a 50mm prime lens. At home I have processed a few more photos and added a selection to this page. The first two of each section are my submissions. I found picking pictures using the small screen of the camera quite difficult.
The theme was "Living". Hohenschönhausen is in the North East of Berlin with the typical high rises built before the wall came down. It struck me that the place looks clean and well looked after unlike some of the housing estates in Scotland.
The theme was "Recreation/Urban Nature". I do like taking photos of urban nature so I was quite happy with this theme. The lake is very nice and features a lakeside cafe and a beach bath. All sadly closed at the moment.
The theme at the Mauerpark was "Meeting, Games and Sports". It was still relatively early and I suppose a day in November. Quite a few dog walkers were out and about and some kids played on the swings. A far cry from the crowds during the summer.
Alexanderplatz is a big central square in Berlin with the TV Tower. The theme here was "Urban Square". It is difficult finding a focus point here. One of the many Christmas Markets is being set up and provides some motives. I do like the world clock. We also went to the top floor of one of the department stores to warm up and enjoy the view.
The last stop at Warschauer Brücke was dedicated to "Cityscapes and Mobility". The bridge is a good vantage point to watch the trains. As a bonus I spotted one of the brand new ICE L trains that will soon run between Berlin and Amsterdam.
